Anjous Storage Pears from the Twisp River Valley

Thank you for buying our pears. We are a small farm and orchard just outside of Twisp, about 100 miles east of Rockport. Our dry climate and warm temps grow beautiful fruits including these Anjou pears which we hope you enjoy. We are happy to be able to get our organically grown fruit to you through our friends in the Skagit. Below are a few tips for storing and ripening your pears.

Keep Your Pears at the Proper Temperature

Store your pears in a cool dark place, ideally at 32-42 degrees Fahrenheit (and at 85% to 90% humidity), or as close to it as you can get. Any colder than this, and the fruit will be damaged; any warmer, and it'll ripen faster than you want. If you have a spare refrigerator (or you have extra space in your refrigerator), this is the ideal spot to store your fruit. Anjous will keep at this temperature for three to five months. Pears actually need to spend time in cold storage to ripen properly, so give your pears two to six weeks before you even think about pulling any out to ripen.

Ripen Your Pears at Room Temperature

Once the proper chill time has passed, ripen your pears by taking out as many as you need, and allowing them to sit at room temperature for several days: seven to 10 days for Anjou. Plan to start enjoying your fruits by mid November. The longer pears have been in cold storage, the faster they'll ripen once they're taken out.
